Birch arrived safely
in the Central African Republic yesterday afternoon our time. The trip was
long and a bit uncomfortable but uneventful. They (he's traveling with one
of our translation consultants, Glenn Kerr) were even able to go into to Paris
and see a little of the sites. The best and rarest part is he was able to
get a call through from CAR to tell us this. There is one URGENT prayer
need. He took 6 Alphasmart computers (about half the size of a regular
computer and 1/3 the price) and he went there to give them to our translators
and train them how to use them. The missionary there worked ahead of time
to get the paperwork all lined up so there would be no problems in customs but
despite his work customs will not release them. A Christian man who works
in the customs department came today and talked with them. He's going to
go tomorrow and try to get them released. PLEASE PRAY THAT CUSTOMS
RELEASES ALL THE COMPUTERS TOMORROW. Not only do the men need them but
Birch only has 5 days to train them, so every day he looses makes it more and
more difficult. He leaves late Saturday night from CAR and gets home next
Sunday night around 5:00.
We do have a family
praise item. We told you that Connie's brother Dana got engaged to a good
friend of ours in India in January. We've been praying that she will get
her fiancé visa in time to come to the US for an August 1 wedding. Dana
just got word from the State Department that it has been approved on this end
and that the papers have been sent to the US Consulate in India. He has to
send "proof of insurance" which is a guarantee of income when she arrives.
Once the consulate receives these papers it will schedule her interview which is
the final hurdle. We have been told they always schedule them within 3
months so we are praising God that things are moving forward so
smoothly.
