Moving from Imphal to Silchar Print E-mail

We are now in Silchar with fairly dependable access to the internet.  It seems like we must have been here a week already but we just arrived yesterday about lunch time.  It was hard for us to leave Imphal, it was starting to feel like home.  When we started packing our suitcases Warren said, "I don't want to go!" But when he found out we were leaving on an airplane he got a lot more excited.  We made a lot of new friends.  Here, every woman who is older than you, you call "Auntie" and every man who is older you call "Uncle."  One of our Indian friends said that there are many of the older women he has known since he was a child and he doesn't even know their names!  They are just "Auntie." Auntie Meena helped watch the boys so Kristy could help mommy and "Uncle Mani's Auntie" brought them treats. Auntie Beulah is one of their new close friends (though they call her Auntie Buwa). One morning as we arrived to work Rowan said "good morning Auntie," then to Kristy about another lady, "that's Auntie too, there are 3 Aunties, there are a lot of Aunties!"  I think he finally figured out the system :)

Birch was able to accomplish a lot of work.  He trained people from 3 of our translations that are to be completed this year how to do their own formatting.  This should save months of work for our home office as well as prevent errors being introduced to the text later on.  He left confident that they understood things well enough to do the remaining work on their own.  Connie had up to 17 in her Teacher Training class and 12 completed the course and received their certificates.  Continue to pray for the Tarao committee.  Connie and Kristy are continuing to work on the Tarao primer.  The translator and another man will come to work with them in a week and half.  Kristy continues to be a huge blessing as always.  Connie was able to hand off almost all her literacy work to Kristy today, this meant Connie was able to spend much of the day helping the boys to get adjusted.  When the boys nap in the afternoons they work on the Tarao primer and Connie uses this as a way of training Kristy on the basics of primer construction.

This week Connie is working with the Darlong to do final corrections to their second storybook.  Birch is working with the Chakma and Bishnupriya to give them the same training as the projects in Imphal.  The Bishnupriya NT is completed and doing a final read through so it should go to print soon.  The Chakma are more than half way finished their New Testament.

Some interesting bits of encouragement:
Chiru:  The Chiru translator said we did not print nearly enough of Old Testament Storybook 1.  He said that the books were so necessary that everyone wants them and even the pastors needed them.  They have already sold all they had.  They had 500 and when we print the second book he would like 5000 copies.
Simte:  We only printed 300 Simte primers because they primarily wanted to use them with the older people.  One of the church leaders shared with Connie, however, that now they are using them to teach the children in all their Sunday School classes.

Prayer needs:  We're all fighting colds, the power has been off almost as much as on today and yesterday, we don't have a working wash machine and the boys are struggling to adjust to a new place.
Praise: wonderful workshops so far, despite strikes and holidays we have not had to miss a day of workshop, it's great to be "home" in Silchar once more, and what continues to be the smoothest trip we have ever had.

We should be able to update you more regularly now that we have email access again.  While we were in Imphal our access was very limited and the connections quite poor.
