The last few days in Silchar were crazy as always. We keep saying we need to schedule another week after the workshops are done before leaving to pack, close up the apartment, say good-byes, file all our reports and try to get correspondence done with all the language committees. To make things more difficult we all caught the boys virus. Birch started getting sick Friday afternoon and was barely able to get out of bed most of Saturday. Saturday evening he began to feel a bit human again which was good because no sooner had we gotten the boys to bed when Connie became violently ill. Kristy followed her in the wee hours of the morning. But even in this God was gracious.
Birch didn’t have workshop on Saturday so he could best afford to be sick. Connie had a huge work load on Saturday, however. But Kristy was able to stay home (she’d planned to go to a college activity) and help with the boys and Connie was able to finish with the Tarao translator. They were able to get far more of the primer done than Connie had hoped so that is a huge answer to prayer. Pray that God uses it to minister to their churches in the months to come. By Sunday, Birch was feeling up to watching the boys which was good as Connie and Kristy could barely get out of bed. Connie had the chills so bad Sunday night they put two blankets over her, a pillow on her feet and a hot water bottle on her back and she was still shivering - it was 85 degrees outside. Monday they were still pretty sick, but getting better. And it was even tough to pack on Tuesday - we’d work a little and then rest a little. God provided and our flight was delayed from 7:30am to 2:00pm so we had Wednesday morning to finish and even get a decent night’s sleep the night before (rather than leaving for the airport at 5:00 am). Sometimes when these things happen in our weakness (and misery) we wonder, “We’re here serving the Lord, shouldn’t we get a pass on this kind of thing.” And then we recall the wise old saying, “God is more concerned with your character than your comfort.” What God is trying to do in us and through us is far more important to Him than what we are trying to “do for Him.” As usual, it was a long trek from Silchar to Kolkata and on to Bangkok. Anyone who has made the trip knows it takes an act of God every time it happens successfully. We are now enjoying a few days of much needed R&R before leaving Tuesday morning for 5 weeks in Myanmar. We arrived at the guest house early in the morning and Connie had an awful headache. We assumed it was a night of no sleep, but it didn’t let up even after she had plenty of rest. Finally last night she got some relief and we’re thanking God she is feeling much better this morning. Thank you so much for praying! |
